Wow!!! So much has happened since I moved into the Brook House a little over a month ago. As you can see I have been throwing lots of sticks and balls to resident pups Eli and Louis. I have been working hard on filing my organic certification paperwork, making a detailed crop plan and ordering millions of seeds for over 50 crops. Together with the help of my Dad, we built a cold storage room in the barn by the high tunnel as well and spruced up that section of the barn with Bill’s help to turn it into the new CSA pickup area. Onion, tomato, pepper, eggplant, lettuce and a few other seeds have been started and I am anxiously waiting the receding of the snow! I am trying to eat my way through last fall’s potato harvest and am coming up with new ways to use them every day. My most recent creation recycled mashed potatoes from the previous night’s dinner into a yummy cheesy herbed crust for a quiche. The lambs are starting to arrive and I feel an imminent explosion of life about to engulf me. I feel a bit like Bambi about to see spring for the first time- it will be my first spring here on the farm and I feel twitterpated about this place, the people, and season already! I am going to keep a weekly farm journal to help me track the weather here at the farm and anything else interesting of note and will share it with you so you can see what’s going on here too! |
